These credits give us the edge in batteries, semiconductors, nuclear, and geothermal—critical industries we can’t afford to lose. This is a test of leadership. Real strength means doubling down.

Mitch Carmichael is the former Secretary of Economic Development for the state of West Virginia, appointed by Governor Jim Justice. A results-driven leader with deep roots in both public service and private industry, Carmichael has seen firsthand how energy tax credits are revitalizing communities – sparking investment, creating jobs, and opening the door to new industries across his home state.

During his time in the Justice administration, Carmichael led efforts to attract cutting-edge employers and expand opportunity in rural West Virginia, including in the energy space. He previously served as President of the West Virginia Senate and Lieutenant Governor, earning a reputation as a pro-growth conservative with a focus on infrastructure, innovation, and economic competitiveness. His private-sector experience in broadband and tech further sharpened his understanding of what it takes to build lasting prosperity in America’s heartland.
